Tomorrow I will cover the longest distance for my marathon training: 20 miles!!!
TWENTY MILES, PEOPLE!
I am going to run 20 miles.
I'm sorry, no matter how many times I say it, it still sounds like twenty miles.
We've been pretty diligent about sticking to our training schedule, and so far, the schedule has been good to us. The farthest we have run was the 17.3 miles we ran 2 weeks ago. And that was totally doable. This is only 2.7 miles more. 2.7 miles is NOTHING.
But still...twenty miles.
Okay, I will stop saying that.
But, will you please cross your fingers for me?? There is just something about that distance that intimidates me.
Here is what I will do - while I'm running that seemingly-impossible distance, when it gets hard, I will remind myself that I am running for an amazing cause. I am running to alleviate poverty in NYC!
I have so many, incredible blessings. I have been so fortunate for all of my life. The least I can do is run 20 miles to help New Yorkers in need. When I think of the struggles some people in this city face, no distance or hill or headwind could convince me to quit!
Right?!
Right!
So, if you want to help me to help impoverished children and families in NYC,
and make a donation. Let's alleviate poverty together!!
And please don't forget to cross your fingers, send good vibes, say some prayers etc. in hopes that I will not be killed by this 20 mile run.
Thanks.

Kate, when it gets hard, just think of me. Er uh...well, that might not help. Do you run with an iPod? Because you should totally download some new music, and not shuffle your playlist. Put poppy songs on when you know it is going to get hard. I was jamming this morning to: Say Hey (Michael Franti and Spearhead), Cooler than Me (Mike Posner), Your Love is My Drug (Ke$ha), and Dog Days are Over (Florence+The Machine). I know some people don't run to music because it kills their mojo. I have to, or I will kill myself. :)
Good luck. Huggs. YOU CAN DO IT!
You've put in the miles. Your body is ready. If you can do 15, you can do 26.2. You've got this!! This is all about the mental preparation now. FIngers are crossed, prayers have been made. Good luck!
You'll do great, especially since you get to run with Jed. Not fair. I did it I made a small donation and I expect a big reward of a post with lots of details of your race. Good luck!
Hey. This is creepy, but not really, and not any creepier than I usually am. BUT we were jogging in the park yesterday, and for a split second I passed you and your husband, and I called out JED! Which is strange because I don't really know Jed at all, and I am HORRIBLE with names. We were at BYU at the same time, and I think I met you at either the Pita Pit or Panda Express one time like 7 years ago - RANDOM. Any ways, what's even more random is that my wife and I are also training for the marathon and raising money too! I found Jed on the facebook and then was directed to your blog here. SMALL WORLD. Good job with your 20 miles yesterday! (We both got hurt knees in August and stopped training for a while. Yesterday we just did 13.1.) I know you're in the same fundraising boat as us, which means you probably don't have any money, but if you're looking for an entertaining date night: www.who-are-these-children-coming-down.blogspot.com - it's gonna be insane. Good luck on your training and fundraising. I love that Jed is running with you but not gonna run the race (and by love, I really mean hate). (I have many questions for you - shoot me an email at ryanlsimmons at gmail.)
I've talked to you since you DID 20 MILES...so I KNOW that you are going to do so well in the race! Now, if you could just get everyone to make a donation!! If everyone just gave a little, or a lot!!!! Thanks for being such a GREAT example to all of us-I'm so proud and thankful I get to ber your mom!! :D
