Maybe you don't recognize this guy, but Colin Smith walked right past me while I was waiting for my photobooth pictures to develop downstairs at Bubby's Pie Company. I knew I recognized him as the talented musician that Jed and I had seen with some friends at Rockwood Music Hall over a year ago. We had liked his show so much that we went online and purchased his album (even though you can listen to the whole thing for free on his website).I was too afraid of making a fool of myself by saying something to him. He even passed me in that tiny hallway a second time - we were squished face to face as I tried to make room for him to get by. Still didn't say anything.
After my mom and I got our awesome photobooth pictures (will post later if you are lucky), we went back upstairs to our table and saw that Colin was seated right next to us. Jed and my parents kept urging me to interrupt his meal to compliment his music, but I just couldn't do it. What if he was there on a date? What if he was shy? What if I said something embarassing and turned bright red (as I often do)?
So, after finishing our meal, I left the restaurant without saying a word.
Do you think I should have?

So I sometimes think celebrities get really tired of being bothered while going about their day, but I also think it's not a big deal if you just respectfully comment on appreciating their work and then let them be. As opposed to bugging them, asking incessant questions, asking for a picture, asking for an autograph, etc. So I think you should have said something, but oh well.
Yes, everyone likes a compliment!
